U.S. VeteranHomer A. Davis, 82,died on Sunday, August 19, 2007 in Houston, Texas.

Services were held at 10:30 am Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at St. James Episcopal Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, Texas

Officiating will be The Rev. Dr. Lamuel Salik, Interim Rector, St. James Episcopal Church, Dalhart, Texas

Homer A Davis was born September 8, 1924 to Homer Jack Davis and Eupha B. Gates Davis in Gatesville, Texas. Graduated from London High School in 1942 – Served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operation. After the War Homer attended North Texas State University and graduated with a Bachelor degree in science in 1949 and received his LLB from Baylor University in 1951. On August 29, 1947 he married Jacquelyn Debenham at the Little Chapel in the Woods in Denton, Texas. They moved to Dalhart in 1951.
A self described “Country Lawyer”, he was a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Association, Past President of the 69th Judicial District, and served two terms on the State Bar Grievance Committee.

Homer’s services to his community both state and local include – teaching Sunday school for over 25 years, Lay Reader for St. James Episcopal Church and counselor of Vestry and vestry members. – State Youth Council of the State of Texas –Member of the Old Main Society, Baylor University – two terms president of Dalhart Chamber of Commerce, Past XIT director – Past Director of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce – Two Terms as District Chairman of Dallam and Hartley County Llano Estacado Council of Boy Scouts – five separate terms as deputy District Governor of Lions International – Past president of the Dalhart Lions Club – helped to organize the Dalhart Youth Council – Chairman of the Polio Fund before it became incorporated into the United fund – Hartley County Attorney for 331/2 years (elected in 1957) – Dalhart City Attorney for 33 years (began in 1954) – Hartley County Appraisal Board of Directors 1982 – 1996 and Chairman 1988 – 1996

Homer received numerous awards including – Citizen of the year in 1971, Melvin Jones award 1997, recognized by the Baylor Founders Club for outstanding contributions to the support of Christian Higher Education, and recognized by the Texas Legislature, with a Resolution - H.S.R. no. 390 dated April 26, 1971 for Unselfish Service to Community and City.

He is survived by his wife – Jackie Davis, of Dalhart, TX Daughter – Helen Ann Davis of Dalhart, TX and Son: Dale Davis of Waco, TX – 3 grandsons: Ramsey Daugherty, Blair Daugherty, Asher and his wife Candace Daugherty all of Dalhart, Texas and 1 great-granddaughter – Avery Daugherty of Dalhart, TX and 1 Uncle Harold Davis of Kilgore, TX.
