Gene Moore, longtime Dalhart resident, passed away at age 98 on October 10, 2012 at Longmont United Hospital in Longmont, Colorado.
Funeral Services were held at 10 AM on Monday, October 15, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Rodney Weatherly, officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX – under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, TX.
Gene was born on March 3, 1914 in Thomas, Oklahoma to James and Ruth Corbin. She moved with her family to McLean, Texas where she graduated from High School. She married Bill Wilcoxson of Dalhart March 24, 1932. They raised their 2 daughters, Shirley and Jeri in Dalhart. Bill passed away in 1948. She worked for the Rock Island Railroad for several years, while continuing to raise her 2 daughters. She married George Moore October 7, 1950. In 1961, Gene and George welcomed in and raised 3 of George’s nephews, whose parents had died. David, Stanley and Gary Moore came to live with them at that time. She moved to Longmont, Colorado in 2010. Gene enjoyed handwork. Through the years that took the form of knitting, sewing, quilting, crocheting and needlepoint. Members of her family enjoyed many handmade gifts. She sewed a wedding dress for a granddaughter Carol Ann and a baptismal dress for a great granddaughter, Tiffany. Later she developed an intense interest in genealogy. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, Beta Sigma Phi and a number of genealogical societies. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was also active in civic affairs including the Dalhart Museum and the American Heart Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Moore and her daughter, Shirley Ogle. Survivors include her daughter Jeri Selby and her husband Garry of Longmont, CO, Shirley’s husband, Gene Ogle of Dalhart, TX and her nephews David Moore and his wife Luz, Stanley Moore and his wife Karla and Gary Moore and his wife Rhonda. She had 4 grandchildren - Steve Selby and wife Amy, Brian Selby and wife Chris and Dan Selby and his wife Danielle and Carol Ann Brubaker and her husband James.
